Ansamn, Ansamn – Stronger Together
It all started in Haïti.
Tracey Tsai’s first experience with Haiti began in 2011, when a friend invited her to a fundraiser.
After multiple trips with several non-profits, Tsai expanded an scholarship program from 90 children to over 200 children, all funded from outside of the country. Eventually, she realized that long-term it wasn’t sustainable and that it would better to create jobs, so that parents could pay for their children’s education. Paying for their child’s education creates a sense of dignity, pride and sacrifice.
That sad reality needs to change. Tsai decided to take the first steps to create livelihood in Haiti using seamstressing as the means. But she introduced a twist. Unlike in the olden times, she decided that this movement will be spearheaded by women.
By becoming expert seamstresses, these women would enjoy financial stability, family progress and a boost to their self-esteem.
